Barbieri Spectro LFP qb Reviewed By Rob Cawston At CMYUK
My name is Rob Cawston. I am an independent color management consultant working with CMYUK for over 15 years now.
CMYUK are a very early proponent of color profiling their super wide printers. CMYUK profile every super wide printer that comes out the door. This ensures that all colors are accurate, all grays and neutral, and all spot colors have a smal delta E, which basically means the colors are accurate and as expected.
I've been using Barbieri measurement instruments for the past 15 years. In my opinion, they are the best in the industry. They are especially good profiling materials for super wide printers. The unique feature of the Barbieri devices is that they can take automatic transmissive and reflective measurements on any thickness of material. Nobody else does this. The sensing unit on the Barbieri QB Textile edition takes a picture with a camera. That camera records where the patches are on the output. Then the spectral unit can scan the colors accurately by knowing ...
CMYUK has upgraded to the new Spectro LFP qb Textile edition
CMYUK has upgraded to the new Spectro LFP qb Textile edition automated reflection and transmission spectrophotometer from Barbieri. Designed specifically for the automatic colour measurement of digitally printed textiles, this device shares the same technology root as the original Barbieri Spectrophotometer but with new dedicated software and accessories.
CMYUK is a long-term user of Barbieri’s pre-eminent colour technology. Rob Cawston, Digital Colour Management Consultant at CMYUK for over 15 years says, “Barbieri is the best that there is. The build quality is superb, we’ve had 2 of these since 2008 and the original device is still working. These machines are absolutely bulletproof; they do the job really well, nothing matches them.”
The need for accurate custom profiles
Most super-wide printers supplied by CMYUK are calibrated and profiled on installation – overriding the manufacturers’ Generic Media Profiles. Using Barbieri technology, these profiles ensure a neutral ...

When it comes to accuracy and color measurements, many people know all about measurement technologies, but it's often the little things that easily are forgotten.Let's talk about white backing. David. What is white backing? What do we have to pay attention to?What is white backing? The purpose for the proper white backing is that every paper has a certain amount of translucency, meaning that if light hits the paper, it's going to shine through the paper and an instrument has a light in it, so when an instrument shines on the paper, what's behind the paper greatly affects what's returned into the instrument measurement head.
And when you're taking multiple prints on different printers, on different substrates, and you want to know that the prints are close to one another, the effect of the backing, ...

What can you tell us about the FOGRA media wedge and what does process control mean for you? What is process control?
The trend we see in those cases is that any industry, sooner or later, faster or slower, move toward an industrial process.
That means we try to move from a more visual base to a more objective measurement-based way. And if you have happened to have customers expecting a certain quality, a certain level of color accuracy for spot color matching GRACoL and or FOGRA, then you are needed, you are requested to print the expected and to double check and going to industrial printing, going more to the industrial way of working this kind of objective report gives you the right fundamental tool to objectify you're doing, to objectify your work.
And also a lot of what people do not always explicitly ask for the quality, but those kind of quality ...
