Back to Barbieri ONColor Excellence in digital backlit printingSince many years Andre Schwarz solves customer’s most critical color problems in digital printing. One of the challenges is to print true colors for backlit applications. Andre, how do you help to achieve color excellence?André Schwarz:We are in 2021 and from my experience there are still many customers out there not knowing how bad they are actually printing and what is possible with their equipment.
In Backlit printing it is still quite common to just use a frontlit profile and print double-strike.
So just „abuse“ a single strike profile and double the amount of ink you lay down on the material.
In the final application, so with a back light, the results are „usable“ and as the currant situation in the market proofs even salable.
I still come to shops, sometimes even very big shops, printing for big brands working like this. But this workaround is far away from what is possible. And I don’t even want to talk about ...
Back to Barbieri ONTop performance in digital textile printingWhen it comes to digital textile printing for the fashion industry, Joe Tschudi has seen it all. He consults many printing companies worldwide in setting up the perfect print workflow. A major factor is the repeatability and reproduction of the correct colors on textile. Joe, can you explain to us what matters to establish a top performance textile workflow?Joe Tschudi:When brands or print service providers hire me to profile their equipment I always ask how they would rate their own process stability.
And of course their answer is always: very good!
But when we do production cycle tests it’s often the very first time that they are confronted with real numbers.
Why is that so important? It manages color expectations. You can’t do a DeltaE of 1 if your process delivers a 3.Well, maybe you can do a 1 between today and tomorrow but what about reproducing the same colors a week, a month or a year later?
Back to Barbieri ONColor Excellence comes with verificationAs Founder and owner of the color management agency Colorcasters Jim Raffel dedicates his work to help customers and find solutions for their challenges in printing. In the majority of cases having color problems equals losing money, therefore a good color management workflow is key to a successful printing operation.Jim, what can be done to feel in full control of the printing process?Jim Raffel:Viktor: Jim, what can be done to feel in full control of the printing process?
Jim: I think the simple answer is verification. And for me, that means what's measured gets done.
In order to trust, you have to verify.
And as verification is a form of measurement and so we measure, we verify we do process control, and it's a continuous cycle that goes on and on.
I have a really good example:We had a client who was not making a lot of money with two dye sublimation printers. When we came in, we found the printers in bad repair. We ...
Back to Barbieri ONTop performance through printer calibrationAndrea DeRossi is one of the leading color management consultants in Italy and has helped more than 700 companies with their color questions. Digital printers are expected to print the right colors, but oftentimes there is a lot of work that needs to be done to assure that.Andrea, why high color quality starts with printer calibration?Andrea De Rossi:The quality of the color in digital printing starts with the calibration of the printer because the qualitative yield and the economy of each reproduction process depends on the essential optimization of the printing machine used.
You cannot start calibrating and profiling without making sure that your printer is perfectly capable of printing.
By optimizing the printer you can make sure that:
The condition of printing is without defects: banding, mottling, bleeding, register, ink disuniformity, maculation, etc.
The technical limits of printability as a function of its ...
