FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) about
Spectrophotometers/ Color Management:
What is the difference between a Spectrophotometer and a Densitometer?
In short, a Densitometer measures RGB or CMYK density values, a
Spectrophotometer measures spectral data from which colorimetric data
(L*a*b*, XYZ etc.) is calculated. In addition, a Spectrophotometer can also
be used as a densitometer, but not vice-versa.
Can I use a Densitometer for Color Management?
No, color management is based on colorimetric values (L*a*b*) which is only
measured by a Colorimeter or Spectrophotometer.
Profile-Xpert
Can I use the created ICC profiles both on Mac and on PC?
Yes, the profile itself is the same.
If you have created a profile with the Mac software and want to use it on a
PC, it must be named with the extension ".ICM" in order to be
accepted by the PC.
If the profile was created with the Windows software and you want to bring
it to the Mac, then you need a utility to set the file format to
"prof" in order for the Mac to recognize the file as a profile.
please see the Profile-Xpert CD under "utilities".
If I have more than one scanner, do I need to buy more than one
Profile-Xpert Scan software?
No, you need only 1 Profile-Xpert Scan for all of your scanners. The
profiles must not be created on the scanning workstation, they are just used
there after creation.
If I have more than one output device, do I need to buy more than one
